Bio-Tissue, Inc. was founded in 1997 in anticipation of a growing demand for cryopreserved human amniotic membrane for ocular surface reconstruction. Thus, Bio-Tissue, Inc. serves as an operating entity engaged in the procurement, processing, storage and distribution of cryopreserved human amniotic membrane (AMNIOGRAFT® and PROKERA®) for transplantation and research uses. In addition, Bio-Tissue, Inc. has retained patent rights to process, preserve, and distribute cryopreserved human amniotic membrane for ocular surface reconstruction.

Bio-Tissue's AMNIOGRAFT® product is listed with the FDA as a HCT/P (Human cell, tissue and cellular and tissue-based product) and its PROKERA® product is listed with the FDA as a Class II medical device.

Bio-Tissue adheres to the FDA's tissue and medical device guidelines and regulations. Bio-Tissue, Inc. is also licensed to operate as a tissue bank by the Department of Health in the State of New York and California.

Bio-Tissue, Inc.'s tissue products are the only amniotic membrane tissue products whose therapeutic claims such as anti-inflammation, anti-scarring, anti-angiogenesis, and promotion of healing are endorsed for ocular surface reconstruction.

In addition to AMNIOGRAFT® and PROKERA®, Bio-Tissue, Inc. has a series of innovative amniotic membrane based products in development for future use in ophthalmology.
