What is AMNIOGRAFT®?

AMNIOGRAFT® is Bio-Tissue’s registered trademark name for processed and cryopreserved human amniotic membrane. AMNIOGRAFT® has therapeutic actions including anti-inflammation, anti-scarring, anti-angiogenesis, and pain reduction. It supports epithelial healing and serves as a physical barrier for the ocular surface against the external environment. AMNIOGRAFT®, processed under Bio-Tissue’s patented technology, was classified as a tissue product by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in 2001. The efficacy of transplanting cryopreserved AMNIOGRAFT®, is supported by hundreds of publications for ocular surface reconstruction dating back as far as 1997. How do you know which side of AMNIOGRAFT® is sticky and which side goes on the eye surface?

AMNIOGRAFT® is manufactured with the stromal (sticky) side of the graft attached to white nitrocellulose filter paper.

If orientation is questionable after detaching the membrane from the paper, use a dry Weckcel or surgical applicator to check. Weckcel will only adhere to the sticky (stromal) side, but not the non-sticky (basement membrane) side. For most procedure, AMINOGRAFT® should be secured on the ocular surface with the stromal, sticky side in contact with the defect.

What size AMNIOGRAFT® should be used?

Four sizes of AMNIOGRAFT® are available:

  Cat # AG-1510, 1.5 x 1.0 cm (Size D)
  Cat # AG-2015, 2.0 x 1.5 cm (Size B)
  Cat # AG-2520, 2.5 x 2.0 cm (Size A)
  Cat # AG-3535, 3.5 x 3.5 cm (Size C)

It is recommended that the size to be ordered is 0.5 cm to 1.0 cm larger than the surgical site it is intended to cover. The following can be used as a size ordering guideline:
